China has acknowledged reports of the earthquakes that struck Venezuela and expressed its sincere condolences to the Venezuelan government and those affected by the disaster. Responding on Thursday to a question about China’s follow-up actions after two consecutive earthquakes exceeding magnitude 7 hit the country, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that Beijing is prepared to offer support based on Venezuela’s needs.
Guo stated that China “stands ready to provide assistance within its capacity through appropriate modalities in light of Venezuela’s needs.”
He also expressed confidence in Venezuela’s recovery efforts, saying that China believes “under the leadership of the Venezuelan Government, the Venezuelan people will surely overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes at an early date.”
