BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s support for sustaining the current momentum toward a ceasefire and ongoing peace negotiations, emphasizing that such efforts align with the fundamental interests of the Iranian people and the broader expectations of the international community.
Wang made these remarks during a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. During the call, Araghchi updated Wang on recent developments in Iran-U.S. negotiations, noting that Tehran remains open to pursuing a rational and practical resolution through dialogue.
He expressed Iran’s appreciation for China’s continued role in easing regional tensions and voiced hope that Beijing would further contribute to advancing peace and bringing an end to the conflict.
In response, Wang reiterated China’s consistent support for Iran in protecting its sovereignty, security, and national dignity. He also referenced President Xi Jinping’s four-point proposal aimed at promoting peace and stability in the Middle East, describing it as a constructive framework for resolving the crisis.
Wang highlighted that the situation is currently at a निर्णing point between conflict and peace, with an opportunity for diplomacy emerging. He stressed the importance of respecting Iran’s sovereignty and legitimate rights, particularly as a nation bordering the Strait of Hormuz, while also ensuring the safety and freedom of international maritime navigation.
He added that restoring normal navigation through the strait is a shared priority for the global community.
Concluding his remarks, Wang stated that China remains committed to encouraging de-escalation, strengthening relations among regional countries, and playing a constructive role in achieving long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.
