WASHINGTON (MNN); Chinese President Xi Jinping held a telephone conversation with US President Donald J. Trump, focusing on the future direction of China–US relations.
President Xi said that over the past year both sides maintained constructive communication and held a successful meeting in Busan, which helped set the course for bilateral relations. He noted that these efforts were welcomed by the people of both countries as well as the international community.
Looking ahead to the new year, President Xi expressed hope of working together to guide China–US relations steadily forward despite challenges, and to achieve positive and meaningful outcomes. He said that while the United States has its concerns, China also has its own, stressing that China stands by its commitments and delivers results through action.
Xi emphasized that if both countries move forward in the same direction on the basis of equality, mutual respect and shared benefit, solutions to each other’s concerns can be found. He said both sides should implement their shared understandings, strengthen dialogue, properly manage differences and expand practical cooperation.
Calling for gradual progress, President Xi said building trust step by step would help both nations find the right way to coexist. He expressed hope that 2026 would become a year of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between the world’s two major countries.
