BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump held a restricted meeting in Beijing on Friday, marking a continuation of high-level dialogue during Trump’s state visit to China from May 13 to 15.
The meeting came a day after formal talks between the two leaders, where both sides discussed bilateral ties and broader strategic issues. Xi described Trump’s visit as “historic and landmark,” saying it helped set a “new vision” for a constructive China–US relationship based on strategic stability.
According to Xi, both countries reached “important common understandings” on maintaining stable economic and trade relations, expanding practical cooperation across multiple sectors, and addressing mutual concerns in a structured manner.
The two leaders also agreed to strengthen communication and coordination on key international and regional issues, signaling an effort to stabilize relations amid ongoing global uncertainties.
During the meeting, Trump expressed willingness to maintain “sincere and in-depth communication” with Xi and said he looks forward to hosting the Chinese president in Washington, D.C., in the future.
The discussions are being viewed as part of a broader attempt to manage tensions while keeping diplomatic and economic channels open between the world’s two largest economies.
