On May 10, 2025, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone call with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, at the latter’s request.
Providing an update on the ongoing conflict between Pakistan and India, Mohammad Ishaq Dar stated that Pakistan is willing to achieve a ceasefire with India but will not lower its guard. He emphasized that Pakistan will respond to any actions that violate its sovereignty and territorial integrity. He expressed gratitude to China for its mediation efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities and reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to maintain close communication with China and the international community.
Wang Yi said that, as a neighbor to both Pakistan and India, China is concerned about the escalation of the conflict. Noting that the violence has led to civilian casualties in Pakistan, he conveyed China’s sympathies. Wang reiterated China’s support for Pakistan in safeguarding its national sovereignty and dignity, expressing confidence that Pakistan would handle the situation with composure and make decisions based on its fundamental and long-term interests.
China hopes for, and supports, an early ceasefire between Pakistan and India. Once reached, the ceasefire must be jointly upheld to prevent a resurgence of conflict. This, Wang said, would serve the interests of both countries, contribute to regional peace and stability, and align with the expectations of the international community. He added that China is willing to continue playing a constructive role in this process.
Wang Yi also noted that Pakistan stands at the forefront of the global fight against terrorism and has made significant contributions to counter-terrorism efforts. He affirmed China’s support for Pakistan’s continued and resolute actions against terrorism and expressed confidence that Pakistan will ensure the safety and security of Chinese personnel and institutions amid the current tensions.
