President Zardari Stresses Cultural Ties as Cornerstone of Pakistan-China Friendship

CHENGDU; President Asif Ali Zardari, while addressing the Second Golden Panda Awards International Culture Forum in Chengdu, underscored the powerful role of art and culture in uniting societies and connecting civilisations. The forum brought together senior Chinese leaders, international delegates, cultural representatives, and artists from across the world.

The President congratulated the award winners for their creativity, noting that artistic expression transcends geographical and political boundaries, binding people together through shared values. He extended appreciation to the Government of Sichuan Province, the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the forum’s organisers for their efforts in hosting such a meaningful cultural platform.

President Zardari also thanked H.E. Mr. Li Shulei, Member of the Political Bureau and Secretariat of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, for the warm welcome extended to him in Sichuan. He commended the successful organisation of the second edition of the Golden Panda Awards International Culture Forum.

Highlighting Pakistan’s strong support for China’s vision of “civilisation exchange and mutual learning,” President Zardari stressed the relevance of the Global Development Initiative (GDI), the Global Security Initiative (GSI), and the Global Governance Initiative (GGI). He said these initiatives reflect a commitment to sustainable development, regional stability, and inclusive international cooperation. He particularly pointed to the GGI’s role in encouraging respect for cultural diversity and promoting dialogue to counter the divisive notion of a “clash of civilisations.”

The President noted that the world is undergoing profound transformation and praised China, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, for advancing cooperative and win-win solutions over confrontation. He said he was deeply impressed by how these initiatives align with the universal values of humanity.

President Zardari further emphasised that Pakistan-China relations represent a unique model of enduring friendship, mutual respect, and cooperation. As the two nations prepare to celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties in 2026, he observed that their partnership stands not only as a strategic alliance but also as a living testament to the people-to-people bonds that underpin it.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment, he said Islamabad is eager to work closely with Beijing and other countries to deepen cultural exchanges, nurture creative industries, and promote understanding and tolerance. He concluded by stating that culture remains an essential bridge in building trust, solidarity, and lasting friendship among nations.
