A delegation comprising officials from Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and Descon Engineering Ltd. has embarked on a specialized hydropower operations training program at China’s Shandong College of Water Conservancy. The initiative was organized by Chinese companies UNI Int’l and ITMC.
Yasser Shakoor, Director of Operations and Business Development at UNI Int’l, provided context for the training. “The update pertains to the Kurram Tangi Dam project, which has now reached completion,” Shakoor stated. “As part of the post-completion phase, engineers associated with the project have been nominated for hydropower training in China, aimed at enhancing operational capacities,” he told media.
This initiative signifies a significant advancement in capacity building and international cooperation within the hydropower sector. According to Shakoor, the training is designed to enhance technical expertise and foster deeper collaboration between Chinese and Pakistani stakeholders engaged in hydropower development.
WAPDA is the Pakistani government agency responsible for developing water and hydropower resources. Descon Engineering Ltd. is a private Pakistani construction firm. The training program, focused on the operational phase of the recently completed Kurram Tangi Dam located in the North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, will continue until August 3.
