Pakistan, China Vow to Boost CPEC Cooperation and Parliamentary Diplomacy

Geneva:Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met with Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China, on the sidelines of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament. The event, jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations, is being held in Geneva from July 29 to 31, 2025.

During the meeting, Speaker Sadiq underscored the enduring and time-tested strategic relationship between Pakistan and China, highlighting the historical tradition of mutual trust and frequent exchanges between the parliaments of both nations. He praised Chairman Zhao Leji’s leadership in fostering sustained inter-parliamentary cooperation and enhancing institutional engagement between the National Assembly of Pakistan and the NPC.

Both sides recognized the valuable role of the Pakistan-China Parliamentary Friendship Group in strengthening bilateral legislative collaboration and in reinforcing the comprehensive All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries. They expressed satisfaction over the progress in parliamentary diplomacy and shared a commitment to further deepen bilateral ties.

Speaker Sadiq emphasized that Pakistan-China relations span a broad spectrum, including robust cooperation in defence, trade, investment, finance, and people-to-people linkages. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast dedication to the successful execution of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing it as a flagship component of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). He further stated that Pakistan is determined to expand CPEC-related cooperation in emerging priority areas such as mining, industrial development, agriculture, information technology, and renewable energy.

The two leaders agreed on the critical role of coordinated parliamentary diplomacy in advancing peace, promoting sustainable development, and strengthening multilateral collaboration at the global level.
