Global Times: The US has once again released a Hong Kong report replete with lies and fallacies, making irresponsible remarks and pointing fingers at Hong Kong affairs, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference on Tuesday, noting that Chinese side expresses strong dissatisfaction, firm opposition, and that China has lodged solemn representations with the US side, in response to a media inquiry regarding the US State Department’s 2026 Hong Kong Policy Act report.
Guo said that since Hong Kong’s return, the Chinese government has consistently and accurately implemented the principles of “one country, two systems” “Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong” and a high degree of autonomy. The enactment and implementation of the Law on Safeguarding National Security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Safeguarding National Security Ordinance have better protected the lawful rights and freedoms enjoyed by Hong Kong residents, better promoted Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability, and better safeguarded the lawful rights and interests of the international community in Hong Kong.
Guo said that law enforcement and judicial authorities of the HKSAR handle cases involving endangering national security in accordance with the law, which is legitimate and leaves no room for unwarranted criticism.
Guo said that Hong Kong is entering a new stage from stability to prosperity, expressing confidence that under the institutional safeguards of “one country, two systems,” Hong Kong will have an even brighter future.
Guo emphasized that Hong Kong is China’s Hong Kong and that Hong Kong affairs are purely China’s internal affairs. The Chinese government’s resolve to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests is unwavering. China urges the US to abide by the principles of international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China’s internal affairs in any form.
