CPEC, trade and connectivity top agenda during President Zardari’s China visit

ISLAMABAD; President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari will pay an official visit to China from September 12 to 21, 2025. During his stay, the President is scheduled to visit Chengdu, Shanghai, and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, where he will meet with senior provincial leaders.

Talks will center on deepening Pakistan–China bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of trade and economic cooperation, progress on the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and new avenues of regional connectivity. The two sides are also expected to exchange views on coordination at multilateral forums.

This upcoming trip reflects the longstanding tradition of high-level exchanges between the two neighbors, who describe their relationship as an “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.”

The visit is seen as a continuation of Pakistan’s strong diplomatic engagement with Beijing, reaffirming both sides’ mutual support on core issues and their resolve to further expand CPEC as a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Pakistan and China share a history of close political, economic, and defense cooperation that has spanned over seven decades. From China’s support to Pakistan in times of regional conflict to Pakistan’s consistent backing of China’s core interests at international platforms, the relationship has often been characterized as “higher than the Himalayas, deeper than the oceans.”

The President’s visit once again highlights the enduring trust and the shared vision of the two countries to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development across the region.
