CPEC Consortium Boosts Education for Pakistani Students

Twenty students from the BS Forestry program at the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) have been awarded fully funded split-degree scholarships under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Consortium of Universities initiative. The scholarships will allow them to complete one year of study at Jiangsu Vocational College of Agriculture and Forestry and Yunnan University in China, beginning in Fall 2025.

The program covers tuition fees, travel, accommodation, and daily living expenses, offering students a valuable opportunity to gain international exposure in fields such as forestry, agriculture, and environmental science. The initiative was made possible through an academic partnership between IUB’s Institute of Forest Sciences and its Chinese counterparts.

IUB Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamran praised the achievement, calling it “a proud moment for the university, the students, and for Pakistan.” He credited Prof. Dr. Tanveer Hussain Turabi and the faculty for leading the collaboration, and noted that such programs reflect IUB’s rising presence in global academic networks.

He added that the scholarships show how CPEC is helping young Pakistanis access world-class education and career paths, especially in emerging sectors like climate-smart agriculture and sustainable development.

Established in 2017, the CPEC Consortium of Universities promotes academic cooperation between Pakistan and China. Through its split-degree model, students complete part of their studies in Pakistan and part in China encouraging long-term academic ties and talent development under the broader goals of CPEC.
