Construction Begins on 20MW Power Supply Project for Gwadar Port and South Free Zone

Construction has officially commenced on a 20-megawatt power supply project for Gwadar Port and the Gwadar Free Zone South, with an estimated cost of Rs 727.738 million under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).

The Quetta Electric Supply Company (QUESCO) has already mobilized key infrastructure to the site, including high-capacity power cables and poles. Installation of electricity poles is currently underway at full pace.

According to a QUESCO official, the project will include four independent feeders—each with a 5 MW capacity—delivering electricity from the Deep Sea Port grid station. “Once operational, this infrastructure will meet the long-term energy needs of the port and the Free Zone South. Completion is targeted for the end of June,” the official confirmed.

The project marks a significant upgrade in Gwadar’s energy infrastructure. Previously, Gwadar Port operated on an 8.5 MW diesel generator system, which involved high operational costs and limited scalability.

This initiative follows QUESCO’s earlier success in delivering a 10 MW power supply to the Gwadar North Free Zone, which has supported expanding industrial activity and investor operations since its launch last year.
