NEW DELHI: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Qadir Nizamipour, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, on Monday in New Delhi, where both officials are attending the 16th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisors and High Representatives on National Security.
During the talks, Wang welcomed the launch of follow-up consultations between Iran and the United States, facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and an agreement on the framework for the next stage of negotiations.
Wang described the key provisions of the 14-point MoU as a hard-won achievement, saying that its effective implementation would help reinforce the ceasefire, create new opportunities for Iran-U.S. relations, and contribute to restoring peace and stability in the Middle East.
He reaffirmed China’s support for efforts aimed at promoting peace, noting that Beijing has consistently backed Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and national dignity, while also supporting improved relations between Iran and its Gulf and regional neighbors.
Wang said China is prepared to continue contributing in its own way toward regional peace and stability. He also emphasized that China views its relationship with Iran from a strategic and long-term perspective and is willing to deepen high-level exchanges, strengthen political trust, expand practical cooperation, and promote the sustained development of bilateral ties.
Nizamipour briefed Wang on recent developments in the Middle East and the status of negotiations between Iran and the United States. He expressed hope that China would continue to play a constructive role in supporting the implementation of the first-phase MoU.
The Iranian official said Tehran highly values its relations with China and appreciates Beijing’s positive contributions to regional and international affairs. He added that strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership with China enjoys broad support across Iran.
Nizamipour also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to the one-China principle and said his country is ready to enhance exchanges at all levels, deepen mutual support, expand cooperation opportunities, and strengthen coordination within multilateral platforms such as BRICS to address shared challenges.
Both officials are in the Indian capital to participate in the BRICS security advisers’ meeting.
