Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for deeper dialogue among civilizations, urging countries to strengthen mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation in order to address global challenges and build a shared future for humanity.
In a video address delivered at the global thematic event marking the 2026 International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations, Wang said that dialogue and mutual learning among different cultures are essential for promoting peace, development, and global solidarity.
He stressed that improving communication among nations and peoples can help bridge differences and foster consensus in an increasingly interconnected world.
Wang described solidarity and consensus as key foundations of a community with a shared future for humanity and outlined a four-point proposal to advance dialogue among civilizations.
First, he called for mutual respect among civilizations and the promotion of harmonious coexistence, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and appreciating cultural diversity.
Second, Wang advocated a people-centered approach, saying stronger people-to-people exchanges are vital for building trust and deepening understanding across societies.
Third, he highlighted the need to balance the preservation of cultural heritage with innovation, arguing that civilizations must both safeguard their traditions and adapt to changing times to drive progress.
Fourth, the Chinese foreign minister urged countries to expand exchanges and mutual learning while improving international mechanisms that facilitate dialogue among civilizations.
According to Wang, enhanced cooperation and communication among cultures can contribute to global peace, reduce misunderstandings, and create opportunities for shared development.
The International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations is observed to encourage intercultural understanding, respect for diversity, and cooperation among nations in addressing common global challenges.
