China’s Ministry of Commerce declared on Tuesday that the nation will adopt decisive countermeasures to protect its rights and interests if the United States intensifies tariff actions. The statement, delivered by a ministry spokesperson, responded to recent U.S. threats to impose a 50% tariff increase on Chinese imports, a move the spokesperson condemned as “groundless” and “a typical practice of unilateral bullying.”

The spokesperson emphasized that China’s existing countermeasures are lawful and necessary to defend national sovereignty, security, and developmental interests while upholding a fair global trade framework. “The U.S. so-called ‘reciprocal tariffs’ against China compound its prior mistakes and reveal a pattern of coercive tactics, which China will never accept,” the spokesperson asserted.

Addressing escalating tensions, the official warned, “China will fight till the end if the U.S. side is bent on going down the wrong path.” Reiterating Beijing’s stance, the spokesperson stressed, “There is no winner in a trade war, and protectionism leads nowhere. Pressuring and threatening are not acceptable approaches to engaging with China.”

The Ministry of Commerce urged Washington to immediately rectify its policies, revoke all unilateral tariffs, halt economic suppression, and resolve disputes through “equal-footed dialogue grounded in mutual respect.” The remarks, reported by Xinhua, underscored China’s commitment to safeguarding its interests while advocating for balanced international cooperation.
