BEIJING: China will continue to play a constructive role in promoting long-term peace and stability in the Middle East, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday following questions about the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and recent understandings reached between the United States and Iran.
Addressing a regular press briefing, Lin said China has been actively engaged in efforts to promote a ceasefire and advance peace since the outbreak of hostilities between the US and Iran. He noted that China’s four-point proposal on fostering peace and stability in the Middle East reflects the country’s longstanding commitment to encouraging dialogue, resolving disputes, ending conflicts, and narrowing differences among parties.
According to Lin, the proposal offers “a Chinese solution” for ending the conflict and achieving peace, while helping strengthen international consensus. He added that the initiative has received broad support from countries in the region as well as the wider international community.
Lin said China will continue to act in line with the four-point proposal, uphold fairness and justice, and “contribute China’s strength to lasting peace in the Middle East, and demonstrate the responsibility of a major country.”
