The Chinese Embassy will host a symposium titled *”Jointly Building the China-Pakistan Community with a Shared Future”* in Islamabad on Monday, commemorating the 10th anniversary of President Xi Jinpingās landmark visit to Pakistan in April 2015. Reflecting on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong highlighted the enduring significance of the visit, which established the worldās first all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between the two nations. āThis historic milestone laid the foundation for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), charting a transformative course for bilateral relations in the new era,ā he stated.
Ambassador Jiang emphasized the profound progress achieved over the past decade, noting that CPEC has āflourished like a towering tree,ā while the partnership has āshone brightly as a model of solidarity.ā He underscored the mutual trust and reciprocity defining the relationship: āFrom evacuating 176 Pakistani citizens from a third country in 2015 to repatriating over 200 stranded nationals in 2023, from combating COVID-19 to aiding Pakistanās post-2022 flood recovery, our nations have exemplified unwavering support. These actions reflect President Xi Jinpingās assertion that China-Pakistan friendship is a āpacesetter for international amity,ā rooted in shared challenges and triumphs.ā
High-level diplomatic engagement has remained a cornerstone of bilateral ties. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharifās visit to China in June 2023, Premier Li Qiangās reciprocal trip in October 2023, and President Asif Ali Zardariās February 2024 visit reinforced strategic alignment. Ambassador Jiang stressed that President Xiās meetings with Pakistani leaders yielded critical consensus, ādirecting and energizing all-weather cooperation amid evolving global dynamics.ā
Economic collaboration under CPEC has delivered tangible outcomes, with $25.4 billion in direct investments, 236,000 jobs, 510 kilometers of highways, and 8,000+ megawatts of electricity generation. Landmark projects include Gwadar Portās evolution into a regional hub, Sahiwal Power Plantās nationwide electrification, Lahoreās Orange Line Metro, and year-round operations at the Khunjerab Pass. Bilateral trade surpassed $23 billion, with CPEC transitioning from āsketch to detailed blueprint,ā as President Xi directed its benefits to reach all Pakistanis.
Security cooperation remains pivotal. āPresident Xiās principle that āsecurity and development are twin enginesā guides our coordinated efforts,ā said Jiang. The recent Memorandum of Understanding on the Global Security Initiative, signed during President Zardariās visit, strengthens joint responses to terrorism, climate crises, and regional instability.
On the global stage, China and Pakistan have championed multilateralism. āAs leading voices of the Global South, we oppose hegemony and advocate for equitable international governance,ā Jiang remarked, referencing Pakistanās 2024 UN Security Council role. Cultural ties have also thrived, with Pakistan ranking among the top three sources of international students in China, Urdu programs expanding in Chinese universities, and collaborative media ventures like the *China Express News Bulletin* resonating widely.
Looking ahead, Ambassador Jiang reaffirmed commitments to high-quality CPEC development, aligning with President Xiās vision for a ācommunity with a shared future.ā He concluded: āAs we implement the CPCās neighboring-country strategy and the Global Civilization Initiative, China-Pakistan relations will ascend new heights, setting a benchmark for South-South cooperation and civilizational harmony.ā
