BEIJING: China hopes that safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz will resume as soon as possible following the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday.
Responding to a question regarding the US-Iran agreement, Lin noted that China had taken note of reports indicating that the first-phase memorandum of understanding (MoU) includes provisions related to reopening the strategic waterway.
Lin emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for international maritime traffic and that restoring stability in the area serves the shared interests of both regional countries and the broader international community.
“We hope the strait will resume safe and unimpeded navigation as soon as possible,” Lin said.
He added that China is willing to maintain communication and coordination with countries in the region as well as the international community on issues related to regional stability and maritime security.
