NEWS DESK (MNN); China on Tuesday announced it will provide emergency humanitarian assistance to several Middle Eastern countries, including Iran and Lebanon, affected by ongoing US and Israeli strikes.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the conflict, now in its third week, has caused severe humanitarian crises across the region.
He stated that aid would also be extended to Jordan and Iraq, aiming to ease the suffering of affected populations, though no further details were provided.
Lin added that China would continue efforts to promote peace, end the war, and prevent the crisis from worsening.
China has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts, with its Middle East envoy Zhai Jun recently urging de-escalation during talks with Saudi officials. Meanwhile, senior diplomat Wang Yi reiterated that the conflict should not have occurred and called for an immediate end to hostilities.
The announcement comes after Donald Trump postponed a planned visit to Beijing due to the conflict. The US has also urged China to assist in reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil supplies that has been effectively blocked by Iran in response to recent strikes.
During the briefing, China also dismissed US media reports suggesting Trumpās visit was linked to the Strait of Hormuz issue, calling such claims false and confirming that both countries remain in communication regarding the visit.
