The fourth session of the China-Pakistan Joint Working Group on Agriculture convened in Beijing, marking a milestone in bilateral cooperation. Co-chaired by senior representatives from China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs’ Department of International Cooperation and Pakistan’s Federal Secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, the gathering assessed advancements in initial agricultural projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Key outcomes included the approval of a second phase of initiatives and the formal launch of the China-Pakistan Agricultural Technology Working Group.

During discussions, both nations agreed to expedite the creation of joint research laboratories and finalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tropical agriculture collaboration. Enhanced partnerships in fisheries, agricultural mechanization, and allied sectors were also emphasized. Over 60 delegates from governmental bodies, research institutions, regional administrations, private enterprises, and diplomatic missions engaged in hybrid attendance.

Highlighting the first phase of CPEC agricultural endeavors, officials praised two flagship initiatives: Sichuan Litong’s chili pepper cultivation demonstration base and Guangxi Royal Dairy’s buffalo breeding and dairy processing project. These ventures, supported by agricultural ministries and diplomatic channels, were hailed as transformative models of cross-border agricultural innovation.

The second phase will integrate four new partners—Wuhan’s Qingfa Hesheng, Xinjiang’s Jinghua Seed Industry, Shandong’s Runber, and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences’ Crop Science Institute. Representatives from these entities affirmed their commitment to fostering “targeted, high-impact” projects post-meeting. “We aim to leverage specialized expertise to elevate CPEC’s agricultural dimension,” stated a participating company delegate. These collaborations are projected to accelerate CPEC’s high-quality development and reinforce the vision of a China-Pakistan shared future.
