BRI project boosts rural living in Indonesia

The Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP), a flagship China-Indonesia cooperation project under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has taken a step toward enhancing rural living conditions in local communities.

Since its launch in 2013, IMIP has leveraged the region’s rich nickel reserves to develop into a major integrated industrial hub, attracting around $35 billion in investments from companies across China, Australia, Singapore, and Indonesia.

On November 22, IMIP donated a garbage transport truck and eight waste bins to Labota Village, strengthening the village’s waste collection and transport capabilities and supporting the development of a more efficient solid-waste management system.

The industrial park, which has created nearly 100,000 direct jobs, plays a crucial role in Indonesia’s nickel deep-processing and new energy sectors, while also advancing its green transformation initiatives.

Morowali Regent Iksan expressed gratitude for IMIP’s contribution, saying, “We sincerely thank IMIP for supporting our environmental improvements. This effort not only enhances rural living conditions but also deepens cooperation between the industrial park and local communities.”
