BEIJING: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday held a formal welcome ceremony outside the Great Hall of the People in Beijing for visiting US President Donald Trump, who is on a state visit to China.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Xi said he expects 2026 to be a “historic, landmark year” that could open a new chapter in China–US relations.
During their talks, Xi emphasized that China and the United States share more common interests than differences, adding that success for one side presents opportunities for the other. He stressed that a stable bilateral relationship would benefit not only both countries but also the wider world.
Xi further stated that China and the United States should view each other as partners rather than rivals, urging cooperation to promote mutual prosperity and ensure stable relations between major powers in the new era.
“I look forward to our discussions on major issues important to our two countries and the world, and working together with you to set the course and steer the giant ship of China-US relations,” Xi said, expressing hope that 2026 would mark a significant turning point in bilateral ties.
