BEIJING: The People’s Liberation Army Navy will host open-ship events across more than 10 cities nationwide around April 23 to mark its 77th anniversary, with over 40 active-duty vessels available for public visits.
A wide range of combat ships will be accessible, including guided-missile destroyers, guided-missile frigates, minesweepers, missile boats, and amphibious landing ships.
Support vessels such as comprehensive supply ships, ocean-going navigation training ships, and hospital ships will also be open to visitors.
Many of the participating vessels have previously undertaken key missions, including escort operations in the Gulf of Aden, international visits, and joint military exercises.
The events will take place in cities such as Dalian, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Guangzhou, and Sanya. Some ships will be open to the public for the first time, while others will dock for the first time in the cities they are named after.
Visitors will be able to engage with naval personnel and experience naval culture firsthand.
In addition to ship tours, naval air force bases and port facilities will also be opened, along with themed activities showcasing the connection between warships and their namesake cities.
Opening active-duty naval vessels to the public is a long-standing global tradition. In recent years, the PLA Navy has regularly organized such events on its founding anniversary and on National Day of the People’s Republic of China, with increasing scale and public participation.
Reservation channels for this yearâs events are gradually opening, and the public can register online through official platforms.
