Defense and security cooperation constitutes standard bilateral engagement and is not directed against any third party,” Mao stated, responding to Indian assertions that China backed Pakistan during recent India-Pakistan friction.
When questioned about specific allegations of support, Mao clarified, “I am not familiar with the specifics you mentioned.” She emphasized the enduring geopolitical reality: “India and Pakistan are and will always be each other’s neighbors, and both are significant neighbors to China.”
Mao outlined China’s consistent diplomatic posture: “Over recent weeks and months, China has closely monitored developments between India and Pakistan, actively encouraged peaceful negotiations, and committed to preserving regional stability.” She reiterated Beijing’s constructive role, affirming, “China welcomes and supports India and Pakistan in resolving differences appropriately through dialogue and consultation to achieve lasting solutions. China stands prepared to continue facilitating this process constructively.”
Directly countering claims that China prioritized Pakistan at India’s expense, Mao reinforced China’s policy framework: “China-Pakistan relations do not target any third party. This principle remains unchanged. We advocate for India and Pakistan to address disputes through dialogue and jointly uphold regional peace and stability.”
