Pakistan will significantly enhance its participation at the 9th China-South Asia Exposition and 29th China Kunming Import and Export Fair, running from June 19 to 24. This follows Pakistan’s recognition as an honored country with a dedicated national pavilion at the previous event, stated Pakistani Consul General in Chengdu, Tanvir Ahmad Bhatti.

“For the past several years, Pakistan has consistently secured one of the largest national booth allocations at this Expo,” Consul General Bhatti emphasized. Approximately 100 Pakistani enterprises and over 180 business delegates will exhibit this year, featuring premium goods such as artisanal wooden furniture, gemstones, brassware, handwoven carpets, and traditional attire. “We will spotlight Pakistan’s finest offerings—exemplary craftsmanship, innovative design, and meticulous finesse,” Bhatti affirmed. He highlighted that individual booth sales frequently achieve “tens of thousands of Renminbi (RMB)” during the exposition.

The event underscores burgeoning China-South Asia trade, which soared to nearly $200 billion in 2024—doubling the volume from a decade prior. “The China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA) and Phase II of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) empower Pakistan to diversify its export portfolio,” noted the diplomat. He added that newly adopted phytosanitary protocols have unlocked Chinese markets for Pakistani cherries, processed beef, and dairy exports.

This year’s expo will prioritize high-potential sectors including renewable energy, advanced agriculture, healthcare, and cultural tourism. “We deeply appreciate Chinese authorities for consistently providing this expansive platform to promote Pakistani products,” Bhatti remarked. Since its 2013 inception, the China-South Asia Expo has drawn over 30,000 exhibitors, facilitating transactions exceeding 3 trillion yuan ($413.4 billion). Organizers have designated two specialized South Asia halls featuring nearly 800 exhibition spaces for the 2024 edition.
