## Pakistan Outlines Regional Transport Integration Strategy at SCO Ministerial Forum

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, delivered remarks at the twelfth convening of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Transport Ministers in Tianjin, China. Minister Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing regional connectivity, trade expansion, and collaborative transport initiatives among SCO member states.

During his address, Minister Khan detailed Pakistan’s advancements in road infrastructure, highlighting significant developments achieved under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He specifically noted the completion of the vital north-south transport artery linking Gwadar to Karachi and extending to the Khunjerab Pass. Khan emphasized that both Karachi Port and Gwadar Port now adhere to international operational benchmarks, presenting substantial opportunities for deeper regional trade integration.

The Minister underscored the strategic importance of broadening trade corridors with neighboring Afghanistan and Iran, describing them as “potential lifelines for economic stability.” He explicitly stated Pakistan’s endorsement of China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), characterizing it as a “transformative force for regional cooperation.” Khan further informed the assembly that Pakistan is rapidly adopting smart transport solutions and actively pursuing the digital transformation of its national transport systems.

Minister Khan announced that “visa on arrival facilities are now available for citizens of 126 countries, reflecting Pakistan’s openness and commitment to regional tourism and trade.” He articulated his conviction that “transport is not just a means of travel, but a tool for mutual development and prosperity,” adding that “connectivity lies at the heart of sustainable regional growth.” He confirmed Pakistan’s efforts to establish a cohesive network of integrated transport systems with fellow SCO nations, grounded firmly in mutual trust and cooperative principles.

Reiterating Pakistan’s robust engagement since attaining full SCO membership in 2017, Minister Khan assured the forum of Pakistan’s commitment to fully implementing all decisions reached within the SCO framework. He concluded his remarks by asserting, “The path to regional development lies in enhanced cooperation—and SCO remains the most vital platform to achieve it.”
