A deadly explosion at a fireworks factory in central China’s Hunan Province has claimed 26 lives and left 61 others injured, officials confirmed during a press briefing on Tuesday.
Changsha Mayor Chen Bozhang extended his condolences to the victims and issued an apology to their families, local residents, and the wider public.
“We are deeply grieved and filled with remorse,” he said.
A moment of silence was observed by attendees before the press conference began.
The blast took place at approximately 4:43 p.m. on Monday at the Huasheng fireworks manufacturing and display company, located in Liuyang, a county-level city under the administration of Changsha, the provincial capital.
