SHANGHAI: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday emphasized the need to advance basic research as a cornerstone for building the country’s strength in science and technology.
Speaking at a symposium on strengthening basic research in Shanghai, Xi urged the adoption of more concrete measures and greater efforts to enhance China’s capacity for original innovation and reinforce its scientific foundation.
Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, highlighted the importance of basic research in driving long-term technological development and national progress.
