BEIJING, (Xinhua) – Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter on Friday to a forum in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust. The year 2025 marks the International Year of Peace and Trust, a concept proposed by Turkmenistan and endorsed by the UN General Assembly. The date also coincides with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s status as a permanently neutral state, Xi noted in his message.

Describing China and Turkmenistan as “good friends and reliable partners” with shared aspirations, Xi emphasized China’s support for Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality. He also praised the country’s efforts to safeguard regional and global peace, stability, and development.Xi highlighted that amid mounting global challenges and ongoing conflicts, the world’s need for peace and trust has never been greater. He stressed that history shows the international community must stand together in times of turbulence, promoting mutual respect, understanding, and trust, resolving disputes peacefully, and opposing hegemony, bullying, and self-interest at the expense of others. He called for extensive consultation, joint efforts, and shared benefits to address the global trust deficit, promote fairness and justice through international law, and strengthen solidarity and cooperation via multilateralism.

“Global affairs should be discussed by all, the international order safeguarded by all, and the outcomes of governance shared by all,” Xi said. The Chinese president also highlighted his recent Global Governance Initiative as a roadmap for reforming and improving the global governance system. He reiterated China’s readiness to work with all countries to uphold world peace, promote common development, and advance the vision of a community with a shared future for humanity.
