Global Times: The Office of the State Council Work Safety Committee has mandated supervised oversight of the probe into a fatal boat capsizing that occurred Tuesday in Chuxiong city, Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, according to a statement issued by China’s Ministry of Emergency Management on Wednesday.
The accident occurred at the Lianxiwan tourist resort in Donghua Township, leaving four people dead among the 26 thrown into the water, according to the ministry.
After the accident, the Ministry of Emergency Management required local authorities to promptly verify and confirm the number of casualties, make every effort to treat the injured, thoroughly investigate the cause, seriously pursue accountability, draw lessons from the incident, and resolutely prevent similar accidents from happening again.
The Office of the State Council Work Safety Committee has decided to oversee the investigation, requiring Yunnan Province to conduct a higher level investigation in accordance with the principle of the “four no-let-ups” no let-up until the cause of the accident is identified, no let-up until responsible personnel are held accountable, no let-up until rectification measures are implemented, and no let-up until relevant personnel have received proper education and to seriously pursue accountability in accordance with laws and regulations.
The specific cause of the accident and related follow-up work remain under investigation.
