By Global Times: Regional countries, including China, must remain highly vigilant, jointly safeguard the outcomes of the victory in World War II, never allow Japanese militarism to rise again from the ashes, never permit the historical tragedy to repeat itself, and never allow any individual or any force to undermine peace and bring disaster to the region, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at a regular press conference on Friday.

Guo’s remarks were made in response to media inquiries over the fact that Japan’s neo-militarism is growing at an alarming speed in recent month, including an active-duty Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) officer breaking into the Chinese Embassy in Japan armed with a knife, a JSDF destroyer transiting the Taiwan Straits, the JSDF’s participation for the first time as a formal active player in the US-Philippines joint military exercises, the Japanese cabinet drastically relaxing restrictions on arms exports, and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi offering ritual and monetary offerings to the notorious Yasukuni Shrine for two consecutive days. This once again demonstrates that it is an indisputable fact that Japan’s neo-militarism is gaining momentum and becoming a source of trouble, posing a real threat, Guo said.

Historically, Japanese militarism manufactured “external threats,” incited nationalism, hijacked the state apparatus, launched wars of aggression abroad, committed heinous crimes, and brought immense suffering and catastrophe to the people of Asia and the Pacific, said Guo.

Today, Japan’s right-wing forces have not only failed to deeply reflect on their history of aggression, but are also continuously pushing the country’s security policy in an offensive and expansionist direction, seeking to accelerate Japan’s “remilitarization” by rebuilding the military-industrial complex, the spokesperson noted.

In reality, Japan is also lobbying everywhere, attempting to invert black and white and whitewash its long-bankrupt so-called “peace-loving country” image, Guo noted. He stated that Japan is also frequently interacting with NATO, attempting to introduce extraterritorial military organizations into the Asia-Pacific region. “Its intention to provoke confrontation is glaringly obvious.”The eyes of the world are clear and sharp.

No matter how eloquently Japan speaks, a country that is actively pushing to amend its constitution, relaxing restrictions on the export of lethal weapons, deploying offensive missiles, and significantly expanding its military budget cannot conceal its true intention of paving the way for military expansion, said Guo.
