Global Times: In response to a question on whether the shuttle diplomacy carried out by special envoy of the Chinese government on the Middle East issue and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi focuses solely on the Gulf region or also extends to Israel and the US in order to push for a ceasefire, or at least a ceasefire for now, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday that, “I just introduced relevant efforts China has made on mediation. You may have also noticed that Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently held a phone conversation with Israeli Foreign Minister, and the special envoy of the Chinese government on the Middle East issue is currently conducting shuttle visits in the region.”
Guo said that our goal is to promote an immediate ceasefire, push all parties back on the track of dialogue and negotiations, and prevent the situation from escalating further.
