Commenting on Lai Ching-te’s sneaky visit to Eswatini which was ridiculed by international community and people of the Taiwan island, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Wednesday that recently, Lai disregarded widespread opposition, sneaked into a foreign plane and colluded with Eswatini to conceal information about passengers on board, making his entry by deception. On his return journey, relevant countries refused to grant overflight rights, Lai again resorted to secret flight and forced flight intrusion, which is utterly disgraceful.
With his round trip marked by deception and forced intrusion, Lai has blatantly disregarded the territorial integrity, airspace and sovereignty of relevant countries. Acting in defiance of global consensus, his behavior is extremely dangerous and reckless. His sneaky clandestine visit similar to “a stowaway” proves that “Taiwan independence” separatist acts are underhanded, unacceptable to the international community, and nothing but a scandal and farce, Lin said.
Some politicians in Eswatini, being bankrolled by Taiwan island, provided room for “Taiwan independence” separatist forces, and are acting against the tide of history. The Chinese side strongly condemns such moves. In recent years, we have repeatedly heard strong voices from people in Taiwan’s so-called “diplomatic allies” calling for the development of relations with China. To recognize the general trend and follow public opinion, or to continue being willfully exploited by figures like Lai Ching-te and willingly act as political props for show, politicians of these countries should think carefully, make a clear choice, and not persist down a dead-end path, Lin said.
There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. Facts have repeatedly shown that the consensus regarding one-China principle has taken deep root internationally and is unshakable. The separatist agenda of “Taiwan independence” is heading for a dead end with dwindling room to survive. The more Lai Ching-te stirs up trouble, the more trapped he will become. We urge the Taiwan independence separatist forces to mend their ways before it is too late and return to the right path, Lin noted.
