BEIJING, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) — China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) on Wednesday announced the discovery of a significant oilfield, Qinhuangdao 29-6, in the shallow Neogene formations of the Bohai Sea. The find marks the seventh consecutive discovery of a hundred-million-tonne-class oilfield in the Bohai Oilfield—China’s largest crude oil production base—since 2019.
According to CNOOC, the discovery will further bolster China’s offshore oil and gas resource base and play a key role in safeguarding national energy security.Situated in the central Bohai Sea, Qinhuangdao 29-6 is a large-scale lithological oilfield, following earlier major finds in the region such as the Qinhuangdao 27-3 oilfield.
Test drilling indicates strong production potential, with a single well capable of yielding around 370 tonnes of crude oil per day, underscoring the promising prospects for further exploration.
