BEIJING: A Chinese energy company has successfully tested its latest megawatt-scale high-altitude wind power technology, becoming the first to design such a system for urban use.
On October 11, 2024, the S500 Stratosphere Airborne Wind Energy System (SAWES) ascended to 500 meters and generated electricity during a trial in the Zhanghe area of Jingmen, Hubei province. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning praised the breakthrough on social media, calling it a “power bank in the sky.”
