TOKYO: The Chinese Embassy in Japan has issued a safety alert advising Chinese nationals to remain cautious following an increase in violent incidents across parts of the country.
In a notice released Saturday, the embassy said public safety has worsened in some areas, pointing to recent violent cases in prefectures such as Fukuoka, Shizuoka, and Aichi.
According to the embassy, several Chinese tourists in Japan have reported being verbally harassed and physically attacked without cause, with some sustaining injuries.
The notice also mentioned a car-ramming incident on Dec. 31, 2025, in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, where two Chinese citizens were seriously hurt and hospitalized for emergency treatment.
Given the circumstances, the embassy reiterated its recommendation that Chinese citizens postpone travel to Japan for the time being. Those already in the country were advised to stay informed about local security conditions, remain vigilant, and take extra personal safety measures.
The embassy further urged Chinese nationals to collect and keep evidence if they experience targeted violence or discrimination, report incidents to local police, and contact Chinese diplomatic missions in Japan for assistance.
