BEIJING: China’s largest offshore oilfield, the Bohai Oilfield, recorded annual production exceeding 40 million tonnes of oil equivalent in 2025, marking the highest level in its history, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced Sunday.

CNOOC said the milestone underscores the Bohai Oilfield’s role as the country’s top offshore oilfield by both scale and output, providing strong backing for national energy security as well as high-quality economic and social development.

Currently operating more than 60 producing oil and gas fields, the Bohai Oilfield has delivered cumulative crude oil output of more than 600 million tonnes. According to CNOOC, oil and gas production at the field has increased by an average of 5 percent annually over the past five years.

The company added that the Bohai Oilfield is accelerating digitalization and green development efforts, achieving breakthroughs in the localization of key equipment, including the application of China’s first domestically developed shallow-water subsea production system. In addition, more than 80 percent of the oilfields in the Bohai Oilfield are now connected to onshore power supplies.
