BEIJING, Dec 27 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will hold meetings with his Cambodian and Thai counterparts in China’s Yunnan Province from December 28 to 29, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday.The meetings will take place at the invitation of Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn, along with Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow, will each lead their respective delegations to the talks.The announcement follows a joint statement signed by Cambodia and Thailand on December 27, in which both sides agreed to a ceasefire during a Special General Border Committee meeting.
Responding to a related query, the spokesperson said China welcomes the ceasefire agreement, describing it as clear evidence that dialogue and consultation remain effective means of resolving complex disputes. The spokesperson added that China, ASEAN, and the broader international community have all contributed to facilitating this outcome.China is prepared to continue offering platforms and creating favorable conditions to support more comprehensive and in-depth communication between Cambodia and Thailand, the spokesperson said.In addition to the foreign ministers, military representatives from China, Cambodia, and Thailand will also participate in the Yunnan meeting.
The spokesperson further emphasized that China will continue to play a constructive role in helping Cambodia and Thailand consolidate the ceasefire, resume exchanges, rebuild political trust, improve bilateral relations, and safeguard regional peace and stability.
