BEIJING: China firmly opposes certain U.S. politicians pointing fingers at the normal interactions between China and Central American countries, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Monday.
Responding to a question at a regular press briefing about the United States stepping up its engagement in the Western Hemisphere since releasing its updated National Security Strategy last month, spokesperson Guo Jiakun said relevant remarks made by some U.S. politicians were outright lies and fallacies.
These comments merely reflect their own ideological bias and Cold War mentality, Guo said.
Guo stressed that China has always followed the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, openness and inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation in its friendly cooperation with Central American countries.
Such cooperation has delivered tangible benefits to local people and has been welcomed by the countries concerned, he noted.
China urges U.S. politicians to stop hyping China-related issues and instead do more to promote regional development and prosperity, Guo added.
