BEIJING: China advocates that countries should handle relations with one another based on win-win cooperation rather than a zero-sum mindset, and through cooperation rather than confrontation, Guo Jiakun, spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday when asked to comment on remarks by the US Treasury secretary Scott Bessent that Washington would impose 100 percent tariffs on Canadian imports if Canada finalizes a free-trade agreement with China, following a similar warning from President Donald Trump.
China and Canada seek to build a new strategic partnership and have made specific arrangements to properly address economic and trade issues between the two sides, reflecting the spirit of equality, openness and inclusiveness, peace, cooperation and shared benefits. “These arrangements are not directed at any third party.
