BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov in Beijing, underscoring the deepening of bilateral relations between the two countries.
Wang said the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership has propelled China-Azerbaijan ties into a new stage of high-quality and all-round development. He called for sustained exchanges at all levels, closer cooperation in sharing governance experience, expanded people-to-people and cultural interactions, and stronger mutual understanding between the two nations.
Emphasising development cooperation, Wang urged both sides to better align their development strategies and advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation to identify new areas of convergence and cultivate fresh drivers of growth. Noting the current period of global turbulence and transformation, Wang said China and Azerbaijan, as Global South countries, should work together to practice genuine multilateralism, uphold the UN-centered international system, and promote a more just and equitable global governance order.
Wang also commended Azerbaijan’s efforts since assuming the presidency of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), and expressed China’s support for Azerbaijan in hosting the CICA summit later this year.
