BEIJING: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a telephone conversation with Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yvan Gil at Gil’s request.
During the call, Gil updated Wang on the latest developments in Venezuela, emphasizing that the Venezuelan government and its people remain determined to protect national sovereignty and independence, firmly defend their legitimate rights, and refuse to yield to threats from hegemonic powers.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that China and Venezuela are strategic partners and that mutual trust and support have long been a defining feature of bilateral relations.
He stated that China opposes all forms of unilateral coercion and supports countries in safeguarding their sovereignty and national dignity.
Wang added that Venezuela is entitled to pursue mutually beneficial cooperation with other nations independently and expressed confidence that the international community understands and supports Venezuela’s efforts to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
