BEIJING: China has welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran on the contents of the first-phase memorandum of understanding (MoU) and expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in facilitating the talks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday.
Responding to a question regarding an announcement by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that the US and Iran had reached an agreement through negotiations and agreed to an immediate and permanent halt to military operations across all fronts, including in Lebanon, Lin noted that official statements from both Washington and Tehran had subsequently confirmed the development.
Lin said China hopes the two sides will sign the first-phase MoU as planned and continue advancing the momentum toward de-escalation.
He also expressed hope that all parties concerned will remain committed to peaceful engagement and address differences through dialogue and consultation.
According to Lin, China is prepared to work with the international community and continue playing a constructive role in helping restore peace and stability in the Middle East and the Gulf region at the earliest possible date.
