Global Times: Commenting on a question on reports that the US military plans to build a new military fuel depot in Davao, Philippines, which is believed by some commentators as the US’ move aiming to strengthen its fuel supply and logistical support capabilities in the Western Pacific, which forms an important part of the US so-called “Indo-Pacific” defense strategy and the consolidation of the “first island chain” combat system, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated Tuesday that as the world today is undergoing intertwined changes and turbulence, unilateralism and military bullying have brought profound disasters to the world. The overall situation of development and stability in the Asia-Pacific region has not come easily and must not be disrupted by anyone.
Certain countries are establishing military bases everywhere, stockpiling arms and fuel, and making combat preparations. This has heightened the risk of military confrontation in the region and has already aroused high vigilance among regional countries, Guo said.
If some regional members disregard the consequences and pull in extra-regional countries to back them up, they will only invite trouble and ultimately harm themselves. We advise relevant countries to earnestly respect the common aspiration of regional countries for peace, development, and stability, and to do more things that are conducive to regional peace and stability, rather than the opposite, the spokesperson urged.
