(Global Times): A spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the EU on Saturday slammed the European Parliament (EP)’s resolution related to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and urged the EP to stop interfering in the HKSAR’s judiciary and China’s internal affairs.
On Thursday, the EP passed a resolution concerning the HKSAR. Asked to comment on that, the spokesperson said on Saturday that the resolution disregards facts and legal principles, smears and vilifies the practice of “one country, two systems” and the Hong Kong national security law, openly interferes in the HKSAR’s judicial affairs, and constitutes a crude interference in China’s internal affairs. “China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this,” the spokesperson said, according to the website of the Chinese Mission to the EU.
Hong Kong is a society governed by the rule of law, where laws must be observed and violations punished. Hong Kong’s judicial authorities handle the case of Jimmy Lai independently and impartially in accordance with the law. No external forces have any right to make irresponsible remarks, according to the spokesperson. Since the implementation of the Hong Kong national security law, the rule of law and the business environment in Hong Kong have further improved, the foundation for long-term prosperity and stability has been consolidated, and the legitimate rights and freedoms of Hong Kong residents have been better protected in a safer environment, the spokesperson noted.
China urges the EP to respect China’s sovereignty and the rule of law in the HKSAR, stop speaking up for anti-China and destabilizing elements in Hong Kong, and cease interfering in the HKSAR’s judicial affairs and China’s internal affairs in any form. The central government will resolutely support the HKSAR in governing Hong Kong in accordance with the law, the spokesperson stressed.
On Friday, a spokesperson for the Chinese Mission to the EU also slammed China-related content in the EP’s 2025 annual reports on the implementation of the Common Foreign and Security Policy and the Common Security and Defence Policy.“The statements in the European Parliament’s reports constitute a gross interference in China’s internal affairs, disregarding facts on issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Xizang, the South China Sea, etc. The Chinese side strongly deplores and firmly opposes that,” the spokesperson said.
