Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong emphasized the enduring strength of Sino-Pakistani ties during a ceremony at the Silkroad Culture Center on Wednesday, commemorating the 74th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Reflecting on seven decades of collaboration, Jiang underscored the “all-weather friendship” forged through mutual trust and shared development goals since formal relations began on May 21, 1951.

“Over the past 74 years, nurtured by successive leaderships and the peoples of both countries, China and Pakistan have built a model of comprehensive cooperation, standing resilient against global challenges,” stated Ambassador Jiang. He reaffirmed Beijing’s unwavering support for Islamabad, saying, “China has consistently supported Pakistan in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, pursuing a development path suited to its conditions, combating terrorism, and maintaining unity to achieve prosperity.”

Highlighting Pakistan’s adherence to the one-China principle, Jiang praised the nation’s steadfast partnership on issues vital to China’s core interests. He noted that bilateral solidarity had been repeatedly demonstrated during crises, including natural disasters and the pandemic, where both sides “authored heartwarming stories of mutual assistance.”

The ambassador lauded progress under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), describing them as embodiments of the “Silk Road Spirit” rooted in peace, inclusiveness, and mutual benefit. “CPEC, now in its 12th year, has entered an upgraded phase, significantly contributing to Pakistan’s socio-economic growth,” he remarked. Recent milestones include the operational Gwadar New International Airport, year-round access at the Khunjerab Pass, and agricultural training programs for 1,000 Pakistani professionals in China.

Jiang also highlighted economic synergies, noting China’s decade-long status as Pakistan’s largest trading partner, primary import source, and top foreign investor. He outlined future priorities aligned with Pakistan’s 5Es framework, emphasizing industrial cooperation, mining, renewable energy, and cross-border e-commerce. “We will advance high-quality BRI projects, focusing on ‘small but impactful’ initiatives to ensure tangible benefits for both peoples,” he added.

Looking ahead, Jiang stressed the importance of aligning with the strategic vision articulated by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani leaders. “At this historic juncture, we remain committed to building an even closer China-Pakistan Community with a Shared Future, ensuring a brighter tomorrow for our relations,” he concluded.
