BEIJING: Chinese Premier Li Qiang chaired a State Council executive meeting on Friday to further strengthen flood prevention and disaster relief measures while also reviewing progress on several national development priorities.
The meeting emphasized that authorities across all regions and government departments must remain highly alert to flood risks by conducting comprehensive inspections, identifying potential hazards, increasing monitoring and patrol efforts, and ensuring the safety of major rivers and lakes.
It also highlighted the importance of focusing on high-risk areas, critical locations, and vulnerable populations. According to the meeting, people facing imminent danger should be evacuated immediately to reduce the risk of casualties.
Officials called for stronger coordination among all levels of government to improve flood control efforts. The meeting stressed that governments should reinforce emergency response arrangements and ensure personnel, equipment, and relief supplies are fully prepared to protect lives and property.
In addition to flood prevention, the meeting received reports on the progress of Digital China initiatives and the development of a modern distribution system.
It stressed the need to accelerate the development of next-generation communication and computing networks, improve digital and intelligent capabilities, and enhance the capacity to assess and prevent emerging security risks. It also called for further reductions in logistics costs and faster action to build an efficient, smooth modern distribution system.
