China is prepared to deepen cooperation with Denmark in emerging sectors including the green economy, innovation and artificial intelligence, while also expanding people-to-people exchanges to strengthen ties between the two nations, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said during a meeting with Danish King Frederik X in Copenhagen on Friday.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, noted that the Danish royal family has maintained friendly relations with China over many years. He highlighted that during her reign, Queen Margrethe II paid two state visits to China and became the first sitting foreign head of state to visit the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders. Wang said the visit reflected “respect for history and a steadfast commitment to justice.”

King Frederik X said Denmark and China have enjoyed a long history of engagement and that the two peoples share enduring friendship. He added that bilateral relations continue to develop positively, supported by active trade and economic cooperation as well as strong people-to-people exchanges.

He said, “the Danish royal family and he himself stand ready to play an active role in carrying forward the traditional friendship between the two countries and promoting the further development of bilateral relations.”

During his visit to Copenhagen, Wang also held talks with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.
