BEIJING: China’s military development is intended to protect the country’s sovereignty, security and development interests, and is not directed against any other nation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Monday.
Speaking at a regular press briefing in response to a report on the growth of China’s military capabilities, Lin emphasized that China remains committed to peaceful development.
He said reports that frame China within a narrative of pursuing hegemony constitute a misreading of the country’s intentions. “It is not aimed at any country,” he said.
Lin also rejected claims that China’s military modernization poses a threat, stating that “the military growth of China means a stronger force for world peace.”
He urged the institution behind the report to stop promoting the so-called “China threat” narrative and instead adopt a practical and objective view of China.
