BEIJING: China’s military is prepared to work with all parties to advance the high-quality development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a Chinese defense spokesperson said on Thursday.
Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, made the remarks while responding to a question regarding Defense Minister Dong Jun’s recent visits to Russia and Kyrgyzstan, where he also attended the SCO Defense Ministers’ Meeting.
Zhang described the SCO as a strong example of multilateralism in action and urged member states to uphold the international order, safeguard fairness and justice, and strengthen cooperation in security governance. He emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of instability and conflict through shared development and contributing to “sustainable peace, development and prosperity” as highlighted during the meeting.
He added that the Chinese military is ready to enhance the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms, improve personnel training to strengthen the foundation of collaboration, and take practical steps to reinforce regional security, with the aim of promoting the organization’s continued high-quality development.
